A stack of logs, trees severed above the ground, may have used their mycorrhizal networks to alert others of the threat and horror of being chopped down. Fungi and tree roots living in a symbiotic way and the web that connects trees beneath earth can go on for miles. The worlds largest organism is a massive fungi in North America. All this is quite complex and more studies are being done, but I imagine that everything alive likely is a kind of sentient being. It’s humans that justify cutting down forests and killing animals by assuming that we are the only intelligent sentient beings.
